UNITED STATES

For those of you needing help finding answers to general United States genealogical research questions, THIS IS THE PLACE! Our staff of Professional Genealogists can help you find those answers. Whether you are new to Family History Research or are stumbling along, not able to locate just the right records, CGS can guide you or provide the research expertise that may help locate those illusive ancestors.

EXTENDED RESEARCH PROJECT

If, for whatever reason, you are unable to begin or continue your Family History Research on a particular United Sates problem, our team of expert Professional Genealogists will continue research efforts, on your behalf, at the FHL or on site at a specific location.

The EXTENDED RESEARCH PROJECT will include not only a Pedigree Analysis Survey, but a lengthy investigation and interpretation of primary and secondary sources applicable that are appropriate to your research problem.  This may include, but not be limited to the following:

                                          1.   Study of  Available Primary and Secondary Sources.

                                                        2.   Extensive Research in Appropriate Primary and Secondary Sources

                                                       3.   Bibliography of Sources Searched.

                                         4.   Analysis or Evaluation of Results.

                                                                    5.   Suggestions for Continued or Future Research.

                                                                    6.   Reasonable Photocopy and Postage Charges.

When possible and appropriate, the client may be advised as to how research is progressing.

4 HOUR SEARCH

The 4 Hour Search may include but not be limited to:

                                                        1. Examination of  3 or 4 Pertinent Primary  or Secondary Source Indices.

This could include Family or County Histories, Census, Cemetery, Land or Probate Records.

                                                                          2. Limited Photocopies of Records Pertinent to the Research.

                                                                          3.  A Brief Analysis and Suggestions.

PEDIGREE ANALYSIS

For those of you needing expert research guidance only, our PEDIGREE ANALYSIS may be the answer.  The PEDIGREE ANALYSIS may include the following:

A Study of cliental genealogical materials to best determine a course of action.

A Survey of the FHL catalogue of published family history books that MAY be pertinent to the research question.

A survey of the IGI and Ancestral File (AF) databases available at the FHL and printouts of possible ancestral connections. These connections may be direct or collateral families.  It should also be remembered that IGI and AF information has not, for the most part, been documented and the information often incorrect or inaccurate. Source notes and documentation are not available for AF entries and most IGI entries.  This does not, however, preclude the possibilities that helpful clues MAY be found that lead to the desired pedigree, ancestral, or individual answer.

In some cases, United States Census Indices may also be studied for a specific location, time period and  ancestor. In this case, a copy of the index page will be included.

Time spent on the PEDIGREE ANALYSIS will be approximately one and one-half hours.  You will receive a one to two page written analysis listing any findings with possible suggestions for continued research. Again, results cannot be guaranteed.

The following list of requirements for a pedigree analysis will help CGS more accurately and effectively offer assistance:
·  Your SPECIFIC research goal or question
·  Pedigree chart as complete as possible
·  Family group sheet as complete as possible
·  Notes & sources from previous research (this helps avoid duplication)
